"How the end always is..."

So this is it. This is posting number 1000. It is also the last posting of this blog.

As you may have noticed the last few weeks the posting of new songs have not been super-inspired nor of a quality that I feel satisfied with. This leads to the conclusion that it is time to say farewell to a dear friend, a friend that I have enjoyed the company of for nearly three years.

Have I enjoyed it? Doubtless!

Do I regret any of the postings? No, not really.

Are there certain postings that are my favorite ones? Without any hesitation yes! (But I will not reveal the ones that are my favorites; that would be too personal.)

Will I miss writing? Most likely! But at the same time, when it is more of a struggle to write a new post then a “blessing” it is time to move on and do other things. It is time to finish up.

Irish folk music played by a punk rock band from Los Angeles. That is Flogging Molly to me.

And since I am a fan of Irish folk rock, I enjoy listening to punk rock and I absolutely love Los Angeles, the end result is pretty damn good. Especially live on stage, as tonight.

At first this sounded like a likely contender to the “catchiest song of the summer” to me. But when playing closer attention to the lyrics I am not so sure.

Don’t get me wrong, I still like the song a lot. But there are some serious lyrics in this song pretty far from the “chewing gum nonsense” that one normally finds in the really catchy summer songs.

Tonight live on stage, The Pixies. I still have not decided whether I should go or not. In my mind The Pixies is a band that peaked their career some 25 years ago and the comeback record released earlier this year is no good.

While the song yesterday was a feel good type of song this is something quite different. There may be some hope in this song but at the same time it is one of the saddest songs I have ever heard.

The first time I heard this song was probably when watching the movie “Pulp fiction”. Then it has been a song that has popped up every now and then, yesterday it happened again, rather unexpected this time since I heard a guy humming the tune on the subway.

I really do believe that this is a charming song, a song that makes me feel good, a song that fills my body with warmness, a song that put a smile on my face.

Once upon a time I was blown away by the song “If I can’t change your mind” recorded by the band Sugar. Ever since then, the mastermind behind Sugar Bob Mould, has released songs that I like though they may not have blown me away.

By now, 20 years plus following the recording of “If I can’t change your mind”, chances are good that I, in time, will describe this song as something that blew me away. It certainly has that potential.

I have listened to Nick Lowe on and off for a very long time but I have never been a huge fan. Despite that it would be interesting to catch him live once, I bet he has a great show coming up and maybe he will tell a story or two from his long career as well.

It took me quite some time before I realized the greatness of Lykke Li but when I finally did her recordings are something that I have been spinning over and over again.

Tonight I will get my first chance to catch her live as well. Or… to be perfectly honest I did see her live a couple of years ago but since her voice was in a terrible shape she had to walk off the stage after 4-5 songs.

Given that I am certainly looking forward to the concert tonight. It will be a great one, I just know it.

I have never been a huge fan of rap music but every now and then a grain of gold pops up. This is one of them; there is just something about this song that I cannot resist.

This group and this song must be among the most controversial releases in recent years. Personally I have a hard time to take this seriously but I must also admit that I like this song.

St. Vincent is a band, or at least the alter ego/stage name of Annie Clark, that I have crossed paths with every now and then the last few years. St. Vincent has never fully caught my attention but maybe it is time for me to listen, really listen, now.

Too late I have realized that Nina Ramsby, together with Martin Hederos, is playing live tonight. This concert is sold out by now.

So what to do about it? Well one way to handle this is to at least listen to the voice of Nina Ramsby. This is a track from the early years of her career when she spent time in the band Salt.
